amaryllis 'Royal Red'

Yeasr ago, in our extended family, giving an amaryllis in a box ready to plant at Christmas was usual.

This year we revived the tradition when Ray saw a planted amaryllis, just two short stems and buds, in the garden centre.

This photo was taken earlier and now it has two tall stems, no support or cane and eight flamboyant beautiful blooms.

Thank you, Peter. This morning Ray found the amaryllis had toppled over in the night, all 2 feet of it so he had to do first aid with canes and string!

A stripy one too……I have never owned an Amaryllis but yesterday bought a Christmas pot with hyacinths in it….must take a photo for reference!

Always lovely to see at this time of the year with it's huge flowers. My local garden centre has been selling the bulbs covered in a wax shell and they don't need setting in a pot. A lovely capture and colour.
