... to stop him barking at other dogs (the bigger the dog, the louder he barks.) I go out with a supply of little bits of meal and when we meet a dog I make Jinks sit and wait for the treat while the dog and owner go past. He's doing really well and hardly barking at all at other dogs now. Just occasionally something clicks in his brain and he sits down when he sees another dog coming and barks at ME for the treat. He's getting the last treat here. One thing about Jinks, whatever other faults and foibles he has, he's always had impeccable, delicate and dainty table manners.
Justine, thank you. You can maybe see I have his lead hooked up to the knob of the meter cupboard to leave hands free for feeding and camera. But I didn't know until I looked on the camera if I'd captured it right - more lucky timing!
Well it's going unexpectedly well! I tried this a few years ago without much success but of course Jinks is 10 now! It's really nice to have a walk without him barking at other dogs. Clare suggested trying it again when she was here so I'm grateful to her.

Gerry, thank you, and especially for Jinks' fav!!
On the dog obedience course they call it 'reward training'!
I like that better, Julie!
