gone fishing..

.........at Le Grand Pont on the Grand Etier canal. These fishermen's huts are called 'carrelets' and I understand that you need a licence to have one and that they are passed down through the family.
These look quite intricate, all those lines coming out at all angles & such a massive net to catch the fish.
Good to see these traditional huts!

What an interesting contraption --with all those lines I wonder what facilities are inside ?

Interesting shot Hazel. It makes you wonder whether the fish are just expected to jump into that huge net!

A very interesting shot -- I've never seen anything like that.

That's the way to do it, you don't get wet in one of those!! Great capture

I've asked Muriel & Pascal where we are staying in Pornic and they've explained that the net operates on a pulley system, bait being put into the water first and the net is then lowered on to the bottom - to wait for the fish. But these 'carrelets' are not necessarily used for fishing now, maybe for an aperitif?! Ray noticed a TV aerial on one!

Very lovely and nice story as well

Very unusual but I suppose they are the equivalent of our beach huts!

So interesting, Hazel, I didn't know about these. Serious fishing arrangement and I can see why they would be kept on the family.
