message in the mediaeval tiles

The Latin inscription in these floor tiles at the entrance to the refectory gives this message to the canons who lived at Titchfield Abbey:

"Before you sit down to meat at your table, remember the poor."

I did note information also given that in 1482 two canons were condemned to bread and water for talking during a period of silence For how long was not disclosed....

(I 'did' Latin at school but for me this inscription might as well be Double Dutch - apologies to Dutch friends on here, just an expression.....)
What an interesting piece of history. I'm sure it didn't stop them from enjoying the meat though.

@karlow75

I bet it didn't - and some good ale to drink with it!

Share your meat with the poor would be a better message I think. A super capture and find.
