Quelle horreur! I looked out of a top window and saw this baby rat sitting in the bird feeder having breakfast.

Well, first I took a shot or two,(first things first) then I went out and scared him off. He came back 2 or 3 times.

This is a step too far, methinks, for 365 when the bird feeder was only supposed to attract robins.

Thanks to David, staying with us, for the title; apologies to UB40.
Stunning picture.

Downside of feeding the birds I suppose! Found a very large, very dead one in the middle of the lawn this morning along with a pile of pigeon feathers so not sure what that was all about but as yet I haven't seen a live one!!!! Actually looks quite sweet!

Cheeky little rat.

Nicely captured. I had to smile at the story. Since joining 365project, my first reaction would have been to grab the camera, too. Hope mouse finds a new place to hang out soon!

Nice shot! Looks like you have some pretty daffodils in the background.

@fjmom

Carol, thank you and yes, Ray planted a whole bed of daffodils last Sept where he had cleared some shrubs.

I think he's kinda cute... That said, he is not invited to my garden! Nice shot!

Well a great photo Hazel but I know what you mean! Anywhere there is food you will find rats...hen houses too! I think we like to not think about it until we actually see a live one! When we used to go round the cows last thing at night to check they were all ok we used to see rats in the calf boxes. Every month the rat man used to visit & put poison down so we did used to keep mostly free from rats but it was an ongoing problem!

Oh no - have been thinking of getting a bird feeder, but perhaps I'll think again! I'd have freaked out at seeing this, not grabbed my camera!

Yuck! We were getting squirrels coming to our feeder so I bought one of the shepherd's hooks for hanging baskets and use that to hold the feeder. The only thing that can get to the seeds are the birds. A 22 will clear out the rats too!

Not the sort of critter that you want to find in your garden...neat capture

Great shot, he certainly seems to be making himself at home.

Well spotted for your photo opportunity but an unwanted guest at your bird table. We have attracted mice by having a bird station this winter but it is keeping the cat amused.

He's a cutie! Your garden beyond looks quite beautiful!

Oh no! I love that you got a couple of shots before you scared him off! Great capture.

@skipt07

Skip, our hanging bird feeders are squirrel and rat proof but the birds here won't use them (I've had to throw out mouldy peanuts, seed etc), hence the tray with the birdseed in!

@gigiflower

Sam, would you believe, he came back this morning. We sent Jinks out and the rat has disappeared! For now...

March 28th, 2015
@gigiflower
