We popped into Winchester today to have a second look at a dining table we are thinking of buying. We found that all the streets in the centre were barricaded off to allow a cycling cub to run a racing competition.
No problem but when folk wanted to cross the road, 'marshalls' were opening the barricades to let them cross between the cyclists appearing. Ray and I were in quite a large group allowed across the road when a cyclist (male and fast) suddenly appeared. Ray tried to hurry across a lady in front of him who was nonchalantly using a mobile as she walked with no regard to anything else and she got quite stroppy. I tried to say that I was sure my husband was only thinking of people's safety but she was not to be placated.
If I could be bothered, on a hot sunny afternoon and after a lunchtime glass of viognier (which nobody really rated last evening) I'd write to said cycling club asking about their safety considerations.
I did take some shots of cyclists which were all pretty much rubbish so, to accompany my rant, here are the self seeded poppies outside our back door.
And now I'm going to have a siesta in the garden. (Jinks is already having one under the table here so he is about to be disturbed. You can see his 'houdini-proof' enclosure in the background of the shot.)
I look forward to a peaceful viewing of your photos this evening.
What a lovely view Hazel. Self seeded flowers often turn out to be good-un's! Lucky you getting this lovely red, mine always turn out some kind of pink and black, yours are a much better class!! Must be the Winchester influence!
Your poppies are splendid! I used to have some of these, but the friend who helps me with my garden (ie, does most of it) is rather enthusiastic, and tends to pull things up in rather haphazard fashion. My herb garden, for example, was all dug over recently in an attempt to tidy it up! Sounds as if you didn't have a relaxing morning - hope the afternoon has been better ...
Much better, thank you - I had a nice long siesta on the sun lounger in the shade. It's my very favourite sort of gardening.....
