This version of my portrait of Annie comes courtesy of my good 365 friend Babs @onewing who has corrected, in Photoshop, the blown-out version in my main.album and emailed it to me. A big thank you!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
That's what 365 project friends are for, putting you right now and again, lovely capture Hazel beautifully process Babs @onewing great joint effort who would believe your approximately 10,613 miles (17,080 km) apart or simply a tap away on a keyboard:)
Yes, incredible power of the internet, Peter - ALL those miles! I have to work out now whether I need to get Photoshop. the difficulty being that I don't like to do very much processing. Perhaps I shall have to be more careful with backgrounds in the future. Babs did a great job! @onewing
@quietpurplehaze I started by using Adobe Elements, and that works fine can do lots of things that Photoshop does and it's a one off purchase, I then got a free 30 day trial with Adobe Photoshop CC and after the trial decided to go for it its only available to rent at around £8.00 per month I've never regretted it, why not have a go at the free trial first Haze :) http://www.adobe.com/uk/downloads.html
@quietpurplehaze GIMP is one of the better free editing software's the free ones tend to have limited features but its all depends on if your after basic or advanced editing options, they are lots of free software why not give them all a try whats the worst that can happen, nothing bad just remember to take a copy of the image and work on the copy, if you mess up you still have the original:)
@pcoulson peter, i embrace open source software... I edit with Darktable, Rawtherapee and GIMP. They are feature rich and cutting edge, often introducing features well in advance of Lightroom and Photoshop.
@quietpurplehaze version 2 is better as the highlights blown out sky did distract the eye. Lovely find and you are almost on 100 !!!
I did already know about the software you use but feel a bit confused as to what to try. I do not shoot in raw. I think I am going to investigate GIMP first. I never want to do too much processing but think I am ready to try something a bit more sophisticated. It feels exciting to nearly be on 100 strangers even though I am going to carry on. Have to be careful not to race to the finishing line!! It's been such a great experience so far and you were responsible for me starting on the journey!
@quietpurplehaze Haze All 3 I mentioned edit jpeg files. GIMP is probably the best one as a starter . Auto levels ,contrast and crops are easy tools to start with . Just remember that you "export as" rather than "save as" when saving your work. Lots of you tube tutorials on the web and a decent help with the app 😀
Thank you, Phil. I'm used to 'export' on Picasa, also can do the basics you mention on FastStone, but don't find its instructions v helpful for more sophisticated editing. Going to try GIMP, thanks for the flag re tutorials.

Thanks for that, Peter. I'll have a look. It seems very confusing just trying to choose. I believe GIMP, which is free, is similar to Photoshop.
Peter I'll see what I can manage and thanks for your help. (My brain gets on overload quickly!!!)
