I have no idea who took this pic of my mum, my grandmother and my uncle enjoying a rare seaside outing about 80 years ago, probably somewhere in Suffolk or Essex.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
@tishpics Ray says that Southend has a very long pier but there surely must be others in the area. I think they must have gone on an organized coach/charabanc trip so Claydon to Southend for the day seems possible.
@quietpurplehaze I think Southend would be a likely candidate - but I think there were others along the east coast - I think Clacton might have had one also Yarmouth??
@tishpics I'll keep them all in mind - shame others did not methodically label everything as my father did! Perhaps I'll find old photos of piers in these places online - so little substance to go on in the photo.
@tishpics Thanks v much. I think maybe it was Southwold as the pylons under the pier have the same pattern in my pic as in a p/crd on the website. But the company who built Southwold pier also did Lowestoft & Felixstowe piers - shall never know exactly!
@thursday Well I suppose, on reflection, the seaside was a bit foreign to him - also he probably had his Sunday best on for this rare outing! Thank you for all your comments on my pics.
Thank you for looking - that's my mum on the left of my grandmother and her younger brother on the right. Don't know which seaside - one with a pier! I had this framed in our shower room for a while. Maybe I'll re-instate it!
