Ray bought a few plants at the nursery: agapanthus, penstemmon in different colours, a bad-hair-do-shaped-flower dahlia and this red/yellow variety which is one of my favourites.
p.s. I took this on manual on my new camera and it's the first shot on the big M to come out looking anything like I wanted it to!
@quietpurplehaze I do so know what you mean - I shoot on manual when I'm being a "proper" photographer, but resort to the safety of Av a lot of the time. Must resolve to stop this if I'm going to improve!
Lovely colour and well done for your big M excursion, all I can say is keep on trying and you will get there. I shoot in manual nearly all the time and as long as you keep practising it does get easier , I too have still have a lot to learn......
@gooner46@quietpurplehaze Even than I failed.
Great capture of this beautiful Dahlia flower. Nice gift of Ray. Who`s doing the planting ? and watering ?
That's a really hard question, Hazel. The Panasonic FZ62 bridge camera has a great zoom and a viewfinder (albeit an electronic one rather than an optical one). The TZ25 is more portable and for that reason I use it a lot but I still don't really like not having a viewfinder on it. If I had to have just one, guess it would be the FZ62. It's a shame the new compact digitals with viewfinders are so expensive but I didn't feel like paying around £500 for one! (By scouring the internet, I bought my 2 cameras for quite a bit less than that.)
Meanwhile this is super - dof exactly right, and unusual composition - that's intended as a compliment, not a criticism! I like unusual!
That's cheered me up no end, Fiona, in my efforts to get out of Intelligent Auto!
Well. Chris, that's really exactly my view too! But I thought I'd have a little try....

Thanks for the encouragement and hopefully a few things will be clearer when I've been on my course in the autumn.
Well gardening is Ray's pleasure (certainly it's not mine) so to do the planting and watering etc etc is a second gift I think!!!!
