On the Wednesday ramble this week, Ray and his friends came across a 'haul' of chestnuts under a tree. They had fallen down down in the wind and all popped out of their cases so all that was necessary was to gather them from the ground.
This was before I washed them so you may see traces of earth!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
@quietpurplehaze I have Three Hazel but we only have one burning at a time, when the children were young we roasted chestnuts, Potato's, made toast with a toasting fork even cooked a stew on it and they thought it was brilliant.
We just eat them as they are. I think they are so much nicer really fresh rather than a bit dried out when you buy them from the shop.
Pam. not sure the gas fire with a glass front would be up to it!!!!
If you have the log fire, I'll bring some over!!
So everybody keeps telling me. Rosie but I won't be out in it picking up chestnuts!
Now you've reminded me of making toast on a toasting fork when we were kids - in front of the fire and I think we put dripping on it to eat!!
I guess you didn't get to eat too many!
