This morning when we went out we found the biggest puddle...
...we've ever seen at the end of our close. So it must have been raining heavily all night while we were sleeping soundly. Ray and I helped a gent who goes up and down the main road on his mobility scooter. The dropped kerb had dropped out of sight under the water so we helped him out of his scooter and Ray lifted it on to the pavement so he could get back on it and go on his way. The water has all disappeared this afternoon.
I'm rather disgruntled with my photos today as I've been doing my 'homework' for the photography workshop: use an SS setting for shots. The trouble is I don't know what I'm doing and my shots came out too overexposed thus necessitating time with PicMonkey before posting. Tomorrow I shall be communing with Intelligent Auto for a break. If anybody has helpful suggestions as to what SS settings to use in what situation, they will be more than gratefully received.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
If your pics are overexposed, you need to either select a smaller aperture say f22 and/or a smaller ISO say 100 or both. I notice that you've used f3.5 which will let a lot more light in and ISO 160. Hope that is of some help although I'm no expert but have learnt through experience! Nice pic of your huge puddle!
Thanks for the info, Rosie. I was selecting the shutter speed and the camera itself selected aperture f3.5 to go with it - I have some idea of aperture now but shutter speed is still a mystery - hopefully all will be clearer in time!
Hope you and our storm to day don`t make to much damage and troubles.
Can`t the sewer handle this amount of water?
Sorry , my English is to bad to help you. i give it a poor try. There is a connection between the light , the open distance and the time . If light is high, increase the shutter time and/or the f. Ask for a better on you workshop
Ferry, thank you - any help is welcome right now! I guess it will be clearer at the next workshop. I seem to understand how the camera operates but not fully how to operate the camera - if that makes any sense at all! It's absolutely pouring with rain right now.
This is a lovely shot

Claire, thank you. It really was quite big!
