A resident of this riverside terrace told me that they felt the council 'has enough to do' so they bought their own 'ingredients' and made sandbags. They also have installed pumps under their floorboards.
He said that since ballast was dumped in the River Itchen to divert its course on to the fields and away from Winchester city, the level of water in the river has receded by 6 or 7 inches.
I understand that further ballast has now been dropped into the river in a different location.
You might think this photo is a bit spoilt by an item of rubbish in the street. I did try to crop it out but for me it then spoilt the composition of the shot.
(Haven't learnt how to make stuff disappear yet - not sure I will!)
I agree that the rubbish is all the more real life; it is a stark shot, an awaking. We may suffer minor floods but nothing compared to this, their stress levels must be through the roof. Really good documentary shot
