old granary barn by quietpurplehaze

old granary barn

This barn is on the Cowdray Estate in Midhurst. It was built on staddle stones to stop the rats getting at the contents.
This is such a fascinating shot especially for a Medieval England buff. I've never seen staddle stones before, what a good idea. Do you know what year this granary was built? The castle in the background is so fabulous, and the anachronistic white van jars me, as if to say "This is a fantasy, you aren't really in the 16th century."

Yes, I thought that - but I don't want to start 'cloning' or whatever it's called. I did crop out one car!
