The slender branches of our little contorted willow tree are a good foil for daffodils or other spring flowers. I converted the photo to a colour pencil sketch in Picasa.
It's OK, Karen, I'm learning that any flower pics I post now are just a pale second best to the residents of Liberty's raptor centre - never thought the birds would be so popular.
I'll come clean now: we went into a restaurant in Ringwood for a bit of lunch after the visit to the raptor centre and they had a huge square glass vase with contorted branches, big pink lilies and snapdragon flowers. I got the idea from that and just cut some contorted willow from our little tree in the garden, put the bits in a vase and lowered the daffodils around them using the willow as a frame. The daffs are dead as dodos today so I think I'll treat myself to some tulips!
@quietpurplehaze Ok, so I totally misquoted T.S. Eliot:
"April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain . . ."
True, they aren't lilacs, but daffodils. But, still. :)

The branches and daffs did all the work!

Dead roots? Please explain!

Good - didn't know it, shall find the rest, thanks!
