hang on a minute

This swan suddenly appeared on the carriageway. I'm grabbing the camera out of its case; Ray is starting to be concerned about the cars; the swan is ambling slowly across the road.

Result: a feeble shot which I've played with in Picasa, mainly in 'orton-ish'.
It's great when something unexpected comes along when you are in a car. Same thing happened with my Austin Healey photo. Nice photo Hazel.

@snoopybooboo

Think my excitement was disproportionate to the event - but had never seen a swan crossing the road before!
June 16th, 2014
Looks like it is about to obey the road rules and follow the arrow. Cool shot 👍

Sam
LOL a great story to go with a great capture! Were there any other swans around that you could see?
June 16th, 2014
@gigiflower

No, not in view but on our first day we found the pair of swans I posted with their small cygnets on a nearby stream so guess that there were others. This is Romney Marshes: flat countryside, lots of sheep, other wildlife and wind turbines!

Well done you !! you got it !!
June 16th, 2014
Lovely capture Hazel, hope the swan was OK.
June 16th, 2014
Hardly worth running it over, Hazel; the Queen wouldn't let you eat it anyway. Nice try though, and it made a decent picture!
June 16th, 2014
Well caught.
June 16th, 2014
Good shot. You're like me Hazel. My camera is always on my lap when we are driving.

June 16th, 2014
@ourrube

Ruby, thanks for the fav and I like your reasons for giving it!
June 16th, 2014
Super capture - hope the swan moved on OK.
June 16th, 2014
Still a Fav photo Hazel from the Car too will you be going on the 28th ? Anne will be coming with me hope you and Ray are both well and Jinks and you had a lovely Holiday.
June 16th, 2014
Yes Hazel, Apparently any dead swan has to be reported, not eaten, although there is some question whether there is a blanket ban on eating them or if it only applies to the mute swans - the big white ones endemic to the UK, which are considered to be the Queen's property. There was a reported case a few years ago when Sir Peter Maxwell Davis, Master of the Queen's Music, took home a swan which had died when it became entangled in power lines, but he was visited by the police who warned him that he could face prosecution if he ate it.

A great capture - still laughing at the description - that is so me! (only I usually don't get a good capture with all the rushing and hurrying...)
June 18th, 2014
Crazy swan! Me and a few others had to avert a rush hour disaster of mummy duck crossing a very complex junction with 10 ducklings last week. All saved!
