stone angel in the churchyard by quietpurplehaze

stone angel in the churchyard

I've tried on more than one occasion to get a shot of this decorative gravestone with not too much luck. I think it's worked a bit better in b&w conversion + a bit of tinkering.
Hmm, time I popped round the corner to the cemetry again methinks. Nice one.

The textures and tones are wonderful - what a wonderful stone work. Somebody must have paid a lot of money for this angel!

@gigiflower

I'll now need to go back and see if I can read the inscription!

Wonderful capture and find. A beautiful angel to watch over the grave.

it must have been hard to do because of the texture blending in the the background, but you have done this really well, I am impressed. the focus is solely on the angle fav

@gigiflower

We walked past the chuchyard today to buy the newspaper and I had a look and found that this was erected in 1925 to remember one Thomas Lavington who died aged 62 - yes,I think it must have been expensive funeral furniture.

A good capture of this flamboyant angel. These Victorian gravestones are fascinating - even if they're ugly (in my view!).

@dolphin

I'm interested in your view! I tried once to find out why it is thought that there are angels and that they look like this.....

Fantastic shot, shows texture and 'age' of the stone and the DOF is great too

@quietpurplehaze Have you read Tracy Chevalier's 'Fallen Angels'? It's a novel, but there's interesting discussion about graveyard angels.

I love this shot! Your processing really brings out the detail in the stone. Got to admit that I'm looking for the TARDIS in the background though. :-)
