I quite like the way b&w emphasizes the effect of the winter afternoon sunlight on these snowdrops.
My b&w shots are almost all converted from colour shots and it does seem to involve more post processing than I would wish to do. Perhaps time to use the b&w options on the camera: high-contrast mon or rich-tone mono. Hmmmmm.......

This is lovely. I've been converting from colour this month too but sometimes I use the high contrast mono art filter on my camera. Or I adjust the mono settings so that it is higher contrast. If you shoot in raw it doesn't matter since you still have the colour too.
Yes, b&w does work well - good tone contrasts. When I had a foray into b&w last year, I remember reading that it's best to shoot in colour, because the sensor does that anyway, and then convert afterwards.
