I met my dear friend, Anne, for lunch today. Afterwards, I visited Winchester Cathedral where I thought of lighting a candle - just because - so I did.
And then I thought of taking its photo, together with the candle which is kept alight so folk can use a taper to light a flame from it. And next I thought of using the s/c red prog on the camera + burst. But the capture was still a bit wibbly-wobbly...........
Well I lit it for my sister. It will be 19 years next month since she died. And I lit it for me too as I'm struggling just a tiny bit at the moment. (I'm not even religious!) Matt, thanks for asking.
When it's someone you love, and you miss them a lot, it makes no difference whether it's 19 years, 19 months, 19 days or 19 minutes. Candles in the church always speak of hope to me and since I believe there is more to life than just the here and now, and that life beyond here is in God's hands, the candles always remind me He's worth hoping in. I guess that might sound crazy, but it's what gets me through the tough times when I'm missing my parents, and a very good friend who died rather young. Maybe you'll find something similar when you light a candle like this. It's a pretty shot.
Thanks for your message, Ann and yes, I do find solace in lighting a candle. Our daughter, Clare, lives far away but at our evening meal I light a nightlight in a rose quartz holder she gave me and feel there's a part of her there. @olivetreeann

I think I might follow your example.
Thank you - I always light candles for the meal, too - well in winter, which is one advantage of the dark evenings!
