We went along the River Hamble at Swanwick in today's lovely September sunshine. Lots of photo opportunities, including this fellow at the donkey sanctuary.
There's something not quite right with this shot: I don't know what it is or what to do about it.
Lovely capture, the only thing I noticed is the foreground iis in shade and the background is bright light, I'm no expert but I would probably just over expose a little or use a fill in flash to lighten it a little. No doubt there will be more suggestions along the way. It still is a lovely detailed capture.
Margaret, thanks for taking the trouble to help and yes, the donkeys were in deep shade, me too but the distance was quite light - I'll try to remember fill flash next time (aperture was quite wide) or expose more.
I don't see much wrong with this photo Hazel.....I like the light & shade, do you think the sticking up,part of the gate takes the eye away, perhaps if t you cropped that off.....just offering another idea. Lovely donkey detail!
Love the shot and Fav for me. The only remark I could give is it is a pitty his one ear is not complete in the picture. I was told this many times... feet/heads and all other body parts like hands should not be cut off. Well done.
he's very cute Haze. what you may be seeing as "not quite right" is the exposure. When you have bright backgrounds the camera can be tricked into getting the exposure a little wrong . In this case you could fix it by either (1) increasing the EV setting to about +0.5 or +1.0 (2) use the fill in flash ...the donkey may not like that or (3) set the camera to do 'spot metering' on the donkeys face
He is gorgeous. Nothing you can do about the exposure for this one now the photo is taken, but if you want to lighten up the donkeys face you could either select quick selection tool or the lasso around his face and then lighten it up a bit in Photoshop. Also I think I would crop it a bit more to cut out the area just below the fence at the bottom of the picture.
Lovely capture and details and a cute donkey. I can see you have much improved the shot with more exposure as I did see the before shot earlier in the day.
Thank you for all the comments and the favs which took this donkey to PP, mostly thanks for the critique and all the helpful suggestions which I shall remember next time I find myself in this situation. It was quite hard isolating one donkey for a shot as they were all crowding to get the grass which children were offering and one dad even had a bag of cut-up carrots which Jinks also profited from.
