The names, ages and occupations of the men who died during the construction are recorded on this monument which was erected in 2005.

Other jobs recorded include pattern maker, seaman, rivet catcher and railway miner.

So strange it took so long after completion to get erected, no health and safety in those days Hazel life was cheap:)

Yes, Ray told me that it was expected that men would die in the bridge construction. Imagine a family's joy when a worker secured a job here and then, for some, the terrible outcome.
