portraits and snippets: Brother John and Brother John

Among the 25 Brothers currently living at the Hospital of St Cross and Almshouse of Noble Poverty are 7 Brothers called John.

At the Michaelmas Fair yesterday I met again these two dear men, both of whom have featured in my strangers' project.

Both of them have read, enjoyed and found interesting, my recently published book of my dad's diaries so we had a little chat about that.

And then I thought a joint portrait was in order.

Believe it or not, both of them have surnames beginning with H so I give you: Brother John H and Brother John H.

Yes, it's in a great position on the page isn't it? They only accept the minimum information about your book when you make the submission and warn you that they cannot publish every one so I am pleased. What do you do in U3A?

Yes it caught my eye straight away.I do "Foto Friends " once a month photogaphy group we are a friendly non competetive group and have a guest photographer come to give us a specific talk and help in an aspect of photography and then critique in the photos we have taken in a particular subject or technique.

Your group sounds like my photogroup except that we only have visiting speakers now and then, members of the group do input on different topics.

Yes, there are two orders within St Cross and they have different coloured robes and different 'badges'.

Great character portrait - how confusing with the names - John is such a common name though - I can say that being married to one!!
