medlars on a tree

I saw these in the walled garden at HInton Ampner.

Apparently, you can eat them.........
Lovely shot. Somebody on my local social media group said that he had some medlars if anyone wanted them. I have to admit I had no idea what medlars were.

Nice image.
You sure can eat them... the fruit can be eaten as a dessert or used to make medlar jelly. They are used in "Medlar cheese", which is similar to lemon curd, being made with the fruit pulp, eggs, and butter. (Wikipedia).

They are smaller than I thought they would be although not easy to judge the actual size so well. I have never tasted anything with medlar, a very old fruit I would think. Good to see Hazel, thank you!
