Recently when the temperature were going down to -40 degrees at night, our morning doves sought shelter in the wood shed. They would often blend in so well with the wood that it was hard to notice them and even when you reached up for wood for the morning they would remain there, it was as if they were frozen in place! I felt so sorry for them and didn't want to disturb them. I love their softness against the roughness of the wood.
Thank you for your comments and favs on my project , I really appreciate your time.
All these browns... they're so pretty. It's my understanding that doves are better able to keep their feet warm in extreme cold if they have a flat surface to roost on so that they can crouch down and spread out their feathers over their legs and feet. Looks like your split wood worked nicely for them.
How nice that they have a place that is not so brutal. I have felt horrible for the wildlife this winter. I think it is the worst winter we have ever had. Beautiful capture.
This is so dear... Ken wondered that the doves would stay through the winter so far north... Glad this one found shelter!
