In our country we have the date of Ijsheiligen ( Late spring) before we can plant summer plants l
Late spring is one of the oldest and probably the most well-known concept of the folk meteorology. The first reports about "strict gentlemen" date from around the year 1000. The late spring are Mamertus St., St. Pankratius, St. Servatius and St. Boniface. They celebrate their name days consecutively 11, 12, 13 and 14 May. The late spring derive their name to the danger of cold spring weather for the crop, which is in bloom at this time. A late frost can now eight damaging.
@pyrrhula Interesting information. Must be similar to folks here planting by the signs. It's really too early to be planting very much, although we've had some very warm days. I don't think though that it got as cold as was forecasted. The blossoms did not seem to be hurt. Thank your for comments. @peterlgrave Thank you Peter. @brillomick Thank you for the comments and fav Mickey. I saw where folks north of here really got some snow. @craftymeg Thank you Margaret. @lindamp5 Thank you Linda. I hope the snow melted quickly. It's not quite as harmful to plants as a freeze or hard frost is. @cherrymartina Thank you.
@owlsandanchors Thank you @novab I love them too. My mother had a huge bush at her home and I brought a cutting down here (she lived in Pennsylvania and I live in North Carolina). Unfortunately it didn't survive. I did find a bush for sale here, bought it and planted it and it has survived. It's not as dense as the ones at my mother's. And I've decided I don't smell fragrances like this as well as I used too. Thank you. @altadc Thank you Alta.
