Mangy peacock feather

Not really the look that you might want when you find a peacock feather in your yard. 3 feathers were found after two peacocks spent time on my patio several days last week. I noticed these feathers today and thought I try to photograph how bad they looked. The green peacock likes to spread his tail, but it was sparse last week when I saw him.
You did a terrific job of capturing the iridescence And some terrific detail as well

@grammyn I wanted them to look like real peacock feathers. Too bad they're so skimpy.
@kwind Thanks Kim.
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian.

Love the title. Not much the best up feather. Well spotted.

A cool title and yes certainly not the best

Ha ha ... yes a bit the worse for wear.

Even he didn't like his feathers enough to keep them!!

Very mangy indeed!

No wonder he dropped it!

Not a quality feather at all!

It is still showing its iridescent colours.

Pretty sad looking. Do they go through a seasonal molt and fill in with new feathers?
June 27th, 2023
A bit sparse you are right!!

Great detail.

@johnfalconer Thanks John. It's a pitiful display for sure.
@Dawn Thanks Dawn. I'm not sure why this peacock has never lived up to my expectations.
@jamibann You're right about that.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond I think you're right Jackie.
@kjarn Haha!
@casablanca I agree!
@pusspup Nope. It isn't.
@wakelys It is doing that and I was tickled I could capture them.
@mccarth1 I don't see them them all the time so looked this up. Apparently the long tail feathers aren't useful after mating season and they begin to shed them.
@craftymeg Very sparse.

@thewatersphotos Thanks Gary.

Yes, definitely not the kind we're used to seeing- but I guess peacocks can have "bad feather days" just like we have "bad hair days".

@olivetreeann I think the neighbor's peacocks are duds.
