We met our son and daughter at the boat to celebrate New Year’s this morning. It was warm and beautiful, but sadly still. No wind. None. So we didn’t even bother to put up the sails, just motored around the harbor for a couple hours, enjoying the views. At one point, my daughter was at the helm when I spotted a seal in the distance and asked her to steer closer to it. She aimed directly at the buoy so we all started yelling and laughing as our boat almost rammed into it. I managed to get a couple shots of the seal, who at first was nonchalant but in some of the later frames, looked somewhat unnerved by the near miss. We had a good laugh out of it and of course, as soon as we tied up at the dock, the wind came up!
In honor of the New Year, I upgraded my 365 membership so I can support the photo site and sometimes upload additional photos. I loved viewing all the photos and commentaries from those completing their projects these last few days and always appreciate your kind comments as well.
You are so fortunate, Elizabeth, to be able to go out in the ocean like that on a regular basis. I love the shot of the seal with the city in the background! And all the rust on the buoy itself -- great capture! I'm glad you upgraded to Ace as it will be fun to see additional photos (and if you want to do themes/challenges, you don't have to use your main album for all those shots). This site is so worthy of supporting, too.
What a wonderful way to spend New year's day and a great shot to record it! Lovely composition and great details of the seal and the city as the backdrop. Fav and following!
@taffy I know I'm very lucky to live so close to the sea and even though I've been out on the water many times this past year, each day is a new adventure. I'm looking forward to learning new techniques to improve my photos in the coming year!

This is such a great shot. The colours of the seal and the buoy really jump out, and the city in the background puts it all in perspective. A fav for me.
There's one more example of how things don't always turn out as we planned! Sorry there was no wind, but this photo of the seal turned out fine! He seems to be the king of that buoy! Better sailing next time...
