Back in January, I posted a shot of a Fleur-de-Lis design for a leaded glass window. The picture on the left was one of the first layouts in the concept stage. Today, we went to install the finished window shown on the right. But our efforts were thwarted almost from the start. When I turned off the freeway to take a single lane road through the hills to our destination, the entire roadway was blocked off. Closed. There were emergency vehicles everywhere. I found out later that yesterday's 5.3 earthquake had sent boulders down in a rock slide that had damaged the road and flipped a car completely over. Eventually, using GPS, we found another route, about 15 miles out of our way. We headed that way, with no guarantee the road would be open at the other end but after about 30 minutes, we managed to get there. Then there were a myriad of added complications due to the way the original window had been framed so it took an extra trip to a hardware store-using the circuitous route and an extra hour. Finally, the window was in place,
looking gorgeous when a slip of a hammer shattered part of the glass, right in the center. Had to dismantle the whole window to take it back to the studio for repair and reschedule to installation for the end of next week. You know what they say about best laid plans.
Oh, what a nightmare!! I am starting to think that this might be jinxed!! Will wait for the next installment of this story! Did you have a glass of wine the minute you got home?!!
Oh no!! It's a gorgeous window but what a harrowing experience with it. It's always so unnerving to read on 365 a personal story that goes with a news event like the earthquake a few days ago.
Oh my.....tragedies all around you. But thank goodness YOU are safe. Such a lovely window and can't wait to see it when it is installed. Love that you showed the work in progress shot ...the workmanship looks lovely.
