Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? No! it's an aerial shot from the Phantom 2 drone camera that I got to play with this afternoon! My friend Dave brought it so we could take photos at the beach but it was too windy so we launched it in the neighborhood about 175 feet in the air to see what it could see.
On the right side in the distance is the Palos Verdes Peninsula and San Pedro Harbor- about 20 miles away. You can see Catalina Island on the right. Ironically, you can also see a different POV of one of the oil drilling platforms that I had posted on May 10, shot from my boat at water level.
Dave has promised to come over later this week so we can take some sunset shots at the beach. Can't wait to do that! This technology is absolutely amazing and loads of fun! Can you imagine taking it to Hawaii or the Grand Canyon?
Now this is really cool. I would love a drone, but could never afford one. I can just imagine how much fun I could have with one of these! Do you need any licences or approvals to operate them, like from your FAA or anything? Fav!
@tomtom No special approvals are needed but there are some restrictions. One is that you can't fly one within 3 miles of the Los Angeles airport because it could be a safety risk for airplanes.
