The Flatiron Building on 5th and Broadway in Manhattan has been called one of the world's most iconic skyscrapers. Built in 1902, the wedge-shaped Beaux-Arts style structure is a New York City landmark. One interesting fact about this unusual building is that the men's restrooms are on even floors; women's on the odd floors. If you're a woman on the 20th floor and you have to go...well good luck!
The Flatiron derives the name from its resemblance to a cast-iron clothing iron. It reminds me of my favorite Monopoly piece. Since this landmark has the reputation of being one of the world's most photographed buildings, I thought I'd give it a shot and am pretty pleased with the result.
Thanks for the faves that put State of the Art and Central Park on the PP!
An amazing building! There have been so many famous photos of this iconic building from Stieglitz on up to the present. This gives a good picture of the fantastic details on the facade.
@congaree Stieglitz is the one whose photos popularized the Flatiron Building! You really have to get yourself to NYC to see the architecture and flowers in bloom. Now is the time!
An instant fav for a beautiful capture of one of my favorite buildings, and one I have photographed many times. Here is one of my captures of this iconic structure: http://365project.org/soboy5/365/2013-10-17
Beautiful capture of this iconic landmark, the first skyscraper in NYC. The perspective and lighting is excellent, showing the detail on the beautiful structure. Enjoy NYC even if the temperatures went down; hope you were prepared for it.
@soboy5 Danny, your B&W of the Flatiron is fantastic! One can really see the unusual shape and stature of the building in your shot! Thanks for sharing it and thanks for your supportive comments.
Wonderful shot of that iconic building!! Did you crop it down, or were you able to zoom into the upper floors? The details are fantastic.....FAV, for sure.....Hope you are loving every minute of your stay in NYC....it looks a few degrees warmer than when I was last there! So beautiful to see it so bright and sunny in the daytime!
