Stone Goddess by redy4et

Stone Goddess

A narrow canal winds through the reeds to the lakeside village of Inthein. On the hill are more than 1,000 crumbling, weather-beaten stupas. These Buddhist religious monuments feature ornate stucco carvings of animals and devas, celestial beings like the one in this image. The complex, constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, is mostly in ruins. We spent part of an afternoon during our journey in Myanmar exploring here and shopping in the market stalls in the village.
