It's true, Iguanas aren't pretty. It took me several days to get used to being surrounded by these unusual creatures while hiking on different islands in the Galapagos. They don't move out of the way so we had to step over and around them, being careful not to step on them! They look fierce but are actually gentle herbivores, surviving on algae and seaweed.
Thanks to everyone for welcoming me back! Looking forward to catching up on all your wonderful photos.
Too generic! SOME iguanas are gorgeous (to my eye, perhaps!) I would agree that these grey ones are somewhat plain and well, not compellingly beautiful! However, I'm again feeling such envy that we aren't there at this very minute! Such a missed opportunity! BUT...one of the reasons we cancelled in my instability on my feel, and your description reminds me I wouldn't want to land atop an Iguana!!!
@Weezilou So sorry you weren't able to make the trip at this time. Maybe next year? And you would want to consider feeling stable with transferring from the boat to the small pangas (inflatable boats) in order to explore the islands. I'll post a photo that shows the panga transports so you can see them.
I recognize that island -- there were so many of those plain gray ones they almost blended right into the hillside. You've captured the feel of the place so well, even down to the unstable walking.
