Ancient Fish Ponds

Brackish water fishponds along the coast of Hawaii are fed by fresh water springs and the tidal action of the sea. Here Hawaiians have raised a variety of fish and tiny red shrimp for hundreds of years. Today, some of these ponds, surrounded by lava rock, are still maintained and continue to produce fish. Best viewed on black.

The bridge as focal point makes this so interesting a scene. Strong sense of place from the structure of the bridge.
