Brackish water fishponds along the coast of Hawaii are fed by fresh water springs and the tidal action of the sea. Here Hawaiians have raised a variety of fish and tiny red shrimp for hundreds of years. Today, some of these ponds, surrounded by lava rock, are still maintained and continue to produce fish.
