That's a Mouthful! by redy4et

That's a Mouthful!

I was sitting on the sand watching this pelican soar above the water, then dive straight down into the waves, only to repeat the maneuver over and over. At one point, the pelican was floating with its mouth open and I snapped this shot. I had no idea he had snagged his supper until I reviewed the photos later on the computer.
Fabulous timing!

Wonderful photo. Great detail, particularly in the feathers. Fav. I love when happy accidents like that happen. I have shot cormorants flying past me, high in the air. Scrambling just to find them in the viewfinder, keep them in frame and get any sort of clear shot. And then when I've gotten home I see that he(or she) was juggling a rather large fish in his mouth the whole time. I suppose those shots just make up for all the times that the great shot we intended to get got away just before we got to snap the photo. But I like so many of your photos that I am looking forward to following your project from now on. Living in SoCal, I see that we shoot many of the same subjects. Flowers and birds.
