Netsukes by redy4et

Netsukes

Miniature 18th century ivory and wood sculptures called Netsukes were featured in an exhibit that captivated me. Most of these were only 1 to 2 inches high and expertly crafted. The full collection of 250 objects is called
The Hare with Amber Eyes. It is unique because it survived World War II intact and was returned to its original owner who eventually donated the entire collection to the museum.
I'm partial to the center one

What a wonderful exhibition that must have been. Having lived in Japan for so long, we have a few too.
