Construction of this extraordinary cathedral, combining Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture, was begun more than 100 years ago and still isn’t close to being finished. Antoni Gaudi devoted the last 40 years of his life to designing, engineering and building it and when he died in 1926 it was less than a quarter complete. Last month when I visited, portions of the building were covered with scaffolding and it’s so immense, it’s difficult to capture in a single photo.
