My dad was in the Army in the 1950’s and during part of his stint he was stationed in Germany. This was a souvenir he brought home.
My German is too rusty; I must take this to a German professor for translation!
Side note: As the story goes, my parents met on the bus the day Dad enlisted…

Great picture and story! My father joined the army when he was 17 (around 1960). He too spent time in Germany and started a beer stein collection. I grew up looking looking up at them lined up on a shelf in the basement.
@cohare I've taken the time to type out all that's painted on this one and sent it to a professor of German I know. Then last night I spotted another stein on a shelf … that I didn't know we had. One more image will be forthcoming some night at 10:xx or 11:xx: the inside bottom, with back-lighting!
