My department chair presents a recognition plaque to a member of our department who retires at the end of the month. Nancy was here when my chair and I arrived 28 years ago this summer. Nancy is the chair's assistant, the department office manager and one of the two central cogs without which the business of our department would come to a screeching and unhappy halt. We wish Nancy a happy retirement, but we will miss her smile, her cheerfulness, her sense of humor, her knowledge and her professionalism.
