NOT a Pipevine Swallowtail!

[Note. Another mis-identification when I was being too quick and careless in trying to use limited resources to ID butterflies and moths.]

Sigh. Another butterfly. I apologize. But today is a packing day: tomorrow we go to Boston to visit our daughters!

I took few frames; it came down to choosing between this and another shot into the mourning dove’s nest. While I am quite unlikely to ever reproduce either of these shots, in the end I liked this one for the blurred motion of the butterfly’s forewings and the swept-back legs from the butterfly’s flight. (Perhaps I/we will learning something about the mechanics of butterfly flight from this post!)

Confirmed at BAMONA as Papilio troilus (family, Papilionidae; subfamily, Papilioninae) or “Spicebush Swallowtail”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/738956

Thank you for your views and comments on yesterday’s “Double-banded Scoliid” [wasp]!

this is definitely a great moment captured. Loved the other one too. You should get an ace membership - a reasonable price for a great site.
