Perhaps it’s a sulphur? Maybe a “Cloudless Sulphur”? The upper wings were very yellow.

@jessleecaw Thanks so much, Jessie! I was slack-jawed when this bright yellow set of wings went zooming past the window! It definitely preferred the petunias, so good colors were relatively assured!
