Pucker up, baby! by rhoing

Pucker up, baby!

This is a species of Aeschynanthus (family Gesneriaceae), commonly known as “lipstick plant,” owing to the appearance of the flowers as they emerge. I was attracted to this flower by the three black “growths” on the upper petal. Karen, a member of the greenhouse staff, was available so I asked. She pinched off the flower and peeled back the petals to show that these are actually the flower’s stamens.
