Or: “The greenhouse was locked. Again.”
I brought home most of Dad’s CDs, since I will be able to donate for a worthy cause those CDs none of us wants.
Anyway, Dad had this set of Time/Life CDs covering the early years of rock ’n’ roll. These 7 disks contain 33 of Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Songs. Among them: “Johnny B. Goode” (“the first rock & roll hit about rock & roll stardom”), “Maybellene” (“Rock & roll guitar starts here”) and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” (Lewis’ “breakthrough hit … had already been cut four times and gone nowhere”).
With Elton John’s Greatest Hits at the bottom of the stack in the photo (“Your Song,” “Rocket Man,” “Candle in the Wind” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”) and 50 Number One Country Hits (Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line” and the Everly Brothers’ “Bye, Bye Love”), Dad’s music has added 39 titles to my RS Top 500 Songs playlist. Thanks, Dad!
