Airport day by rhoing

Airport day

The kids went home today, but at least I got a bit of extra time with them as I took them to the airport in St. Louis. I took advantage of being in St. Louis by stocking up on Clare’s favorite lunch-time cookies: Trader Joe’s Triple-ginger snaps. I also looked at Whole Foods for “cracked wheat,” an ingredient in one of our favorite bread machine bread recipes. I have not been able to find cracked wheat anywhere for a few years now. Does anyone know why this is so? There are a couple of reasonable substitutions, but it’s been quite the puzzle. But I digress. Again.

This is from our gardens; I think it’s a Dwarf Celosia, (family Amaranthaceae and genus Celosia). I won’t try to get the species as this was a commercial purchase and PhytoImages shows 175 different species in the genus Celosia.

A beautiful flower in its deep red. My Grandmother used to use cracked wheat all the time. I will check in our area Thom, but something tells me a local store here sells it.
