“Flaming Torch” by rhoing

“Flaming Torch”

or “Summer Torch” (“Billbergia pyramidalis” in the Bromeliaceae family). As Sabine wrote, “Weird plants these bromeliads. Most of the year they’re nothing more than a bunch of strappy, stiff, green leaves and you hardly notice them at all. And then, in Autumn, almost out of nowhere they produce these gorgeous, colourful blooms & brighten up that forgotten shady corner of the backyard” — http://365project.org/sabine/365/2012-03-26

I love the bright color amidst the cooler greens. Darn nice detail too.

@Sabine I was surprised to see that someone had used the tag "Billbergia pyramidalis" … and then I "stole" your write-up.

I like bromeliads and have quite a few in my garden. Lovely shot of the flower Thom.
