Only a couple dozen frames shot today as we made the “hop” from Oahu to Maui. We went to the Aloha Parade in Honolulu in the morning, but I didn’t take a camera. (More on that below.)
As you can imagine, Hawaii does not lack for photograph-able plants-and-flowers. This is “Erythrina crista-galli,” a plant native to South America going by several “common names”:
» Cry Baby
» Cockspur
» Fireman’s Cap Tree
» Brazillian Coral Tree
From Wikipedia: “It is widely planted as a street or garden tree…” http://Fen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythrina_crista-galli
From Weeds of Australia: “Cockspur coral tree (Erythrina crista-galli) is widely cultivated as an ornamental in the warmer parts of Australia. It is commonly grown in parks and gardens for its spectacular red flowers, which attract birds” http://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/03030800-0b07-490a-8d04-0605030c0f01/media/Html/Erythrina_crista-galli.htm
This tree was across from our hotel in the Waikiki area of Oahu.
The USS Arizona Memorial still has a “no bags” policy, so yesterday I took only my point-and-shoot … along with an extra battery. This morning I discovered that I lost the extra battery yesterday (it must have fallen out of my pocket) and I didn’t want to lug my big camera to the Aloha Parade, http://www.alohafestivals.com/ so not many frames today.
We boarded an Island Air flight from Honolulu to Kahului, Maui. You’ve seen the airline route maps in the back of their in-flight magazines, right? Check out Island Air’s route map, https://webres.islandair.com/VIBE/App_Themes/WP/WP/routemap.gif
Not very complicated!
