The passing of an era + Brian Schaffner, 1960–2015

Brian Schaffner was the "B" behind "B&L Photo." We had many interesting conversations over the years and I learned a lot about camera hardware from him. Although a single-site specialty store, he always did what he could to be competitive on price and I never trusted anyone else with my vacation prints from film. I think I bought my first digital point-and-shoot from Brian, too.

But about the time that digital photography was gaining a foothold, Brian sold his interest in the business to some of his employees. After Brian, it was never the same.

A couple/few years ago the location changed by about 100 feet and apparently it's been out of business for several months.

Finally, I learned that Brian passed away yesterday. Brain cancer at age 54. You made a mark on many of us, Brian, and have been missed as the face of B&L.

Bittersweet story! Sad to see things come to an end.

You hate to see those places leave us but it is such a passing thing lately

So sad. Truly, the end of an era. I hate to hear how things went for him. I wish end of life could be more pleasant. Shame it has to go bad at the end.
