Pine cones, pine needles … and mushrooms! by rhoing

Pine cones, pine needles … and mushrooms!

Clare & I cut the grass today. We're hopeful it's the last time for this year. Before we mowed, however, we picked up all the fallen pine cones, fallen pine needles, and sprouting mushrooms. There were a lot of these. Attempting to find out what kind this is and learn if there's anything interesting about it. :)

Genus Boletus. From wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boletus » “Boletus is a genus of mushroom-producing fungi, comprising over 100 species. The genus Boletus was originally broadly defined and described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753, essentially containing all fungi with pores.”

A similar photo to this one at PhytoImages is labelled “Underside of cap showing pores”: http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Boletaceae_Boletus_sp_12368.html

Genus page at PhytoImages, http://phytoimages.siu.edu/cgi-bin/dol/dol_terminal.pl?taxon_name=Boletus&rank=genus

This was as far away as I could get with my macro lens, but I was constrained: I wanted to hold it for "sizing" purposes!
