Carbondale is in the path of totality for the solar eclipse that will occur this year on August 21. We were told that the sun's position in the sky would be same on April 24 as on the day of the eclipse, so I went outside at 1:20 p.m. After a few poor attempts of shooting up at the sky, it occurred to me that — Doh! — the position of the shadow on the ground would tell me what I wanted to know and it would be much easier to photograph. So here is where the sun's shadow would be about 4 minutes into totality in 4 months.
