Today I screwed down lower curtain rods for our friend, Bobbie. I took most of the tools I needed, but had to rummage through her tool box for a small level. In my rummagings, I found this old, 2' ruler, which collapses to 6" when folded up. As it's lying on the floor here, the ends swing *up* at the left to open; the middle at upper-right swings open lying flat. Clever design. I wonder when Bobbie's dad (I assume) might have bought this, or whether it's even older than that!

My dad had one of these. A lot of attention to detail went in to making these. At both ends they have metal protectors so the wood won't chip. Old wood levels had brass protectors for the same reason. Nice picture.
