I know it's not a great photo. Astrophotography isn't easy, especially when you don't understand most of the camera settings anyway, but as Mars is at it's closest to Earth tonight for a couple of years I've made it my photo for today. I considered snapping it the other day when it was in opposition but didn't so I popped out tonight for a photo as I didn't take any others today.
My dad was big on astronomy and I used to spend hours with him in his observatory when I was growing up. A love of stargazing was inevitable and I'm always sticking my head out of windows when I should be sleeping for a peek at the sky, to see what I can see.
Mars is the brighest thing other than the moon in this photo (didn't capture the orangey colour too well) and the star above it is Algieba. I don't know what the others are called.
