There has always been badgers (amongst other things!) visiting the garden and a young lone badger, probably male, has been coming for the last few days. I've watched him from indoors in the dark a couple of times and tonight left food out for him. He's been arriving around 10:30. Tonight, around 10, there was a nice sky and moon so I thought I'd go down the garden and take a few photos - I walked out of the back door and there was the badger! I expected him to run away but he just looked at me and then carried on eating so I slowly sat down and watched him, just a few metres away, while he ate!
Something spooked him and he ran to the bottom of the garden so I got a chair out and made myself comfy and he did return later. I was out there for over an hour, watching the stars emerge and the bats fly around and listening to a curlew or two in the fields - it was fantastic! I never thought I'd get so close to a badger in the garden!
Sounds like a splendid evening with the critters under a starry sky! Excellent that you were able to capture him before he got away. And many thanks for your lovely comment and fav on my photo "evening time".
We only ever have hedgehogs :( They are cute though! I love the little snuffly noises they make :) We see a lot of badgers at the local campsite. Very sweet, but you wouldn't want to get too close!
What a great sight to have, literally on your back doorstep.
